Diabetes Management in the School & Daycare Setting

This educational session will provide updates on how to effectively care for children with type one diabetes in the school or childcare setting. We will discuss utilizing a multidisciplinary care plan, common dietary concerns, and the impact of type one diabetes on mental health. Participants will also have exposure to common diabetic devices such as CGMs, insulin pumps and rescue medication trainers. Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to care for this population more effectively in their unique setting.

Target Audience

The target audience for this course are Registered Nurses, other School Health Aides, and Diabetes Resource Nurses.

Learner Outcome

After attending this event, participants will report increased knowledge and confidence related to caring for children with diabetes in the school setting. Participants will successfully demonstrate insulin dosage calculations and use of diabetes device use seen in the school setting.
