LIVE OUTREACH IN-PERSON ACTIVITY

Overview and Target Audience
This symposium is for interdisciplinary healthcare team members caring for pediatric patients in an emergency and pre-hospital setting. Current clinical issues and implications for children's health and clinician care delivery are presented and discussed.
This symposium will be held at Valley View Hospital with an in person only attendance option. No virtual links are provided for this event.
Learner Outcomes
After attending this education, learners will:
- Report new knowledge related to evidence-based emergency and trauma care management for pediatric patients.
- Explain pediatric management strategies through case studies.
Objectives
- Describe pediatric assessment tools, appropriate initial interventions and escalation pathways for pediatric patients.
- Discuss initial management of pediatric patients presenting with respiratory distress and failure.
- Identify the clinical presentation of pediatric diabetic ketoacidosis and apply evidence‑based principles of initial management, including fluid resuscitation, insulin therapy, and monitoring for complications such as cerebral edema.
- Identify normal vs. concerning injuries in infants and young children.
- Discuss first line management for active seizure activity.
- Describe the assessment and management of pediatric patients with multiple injuries.
- Discuss current trends in pediatric prehospital care and answer questions regarding EMS topics.
- Outline steps in initial evaluation, documentation, and management of child abuse.
- Discuss presentation, evaluation, and management of pediatric sepsis.
- Identify common pitfalls encountered during pediatric airway management.
- Identify key differences in cardiac arrest when etiology is medical or traumatic in nature.
- Recognize the clinical presentation, risk factors, and time sensitive interventions required for prompt management of oncologic emergencies.
- Review pediatric head trauma principles including indications for non-surgical versus surgical management.
- Identify how trauma and stress influence emotion regulation and apply evidence-based strategies to reduce stress, promote safety, and improve patient engagement in care.
- Recognize the unique pathophysiology, acute management, and surgical considerations of crush injuries in pediatric patients.
- Identify the most common neonatal emergencies that present within the first 28 days of life.
- Discuss approach, workup, treatment of interesting pediatric emergency medicine cases.

- Community physicians who choose not to claim CME credit
Community physicians who wish to claim CME credit are required to pay a registration fee of $265.
Children’s Hospital Colorado sets registration fees in accordance with federal guidelines to ensure compliance with regulations governing financial relationships in healthcare.
Cancelation and Refund Policy
For community physicians who would like to claim CME, a registration refund, minus a $10.00 cancellation fee, will be issued if the cancellation request is received at least 14 calendar days prior to the activity date. No refunds will be granted after this deadline or for non-attendance. However, a substitute may attend in your place if you notify the conference coordinator at least three days before the activity.
Children’s Hospital Colorado reserves the right to modify the agenda or cancel the activity due to unforeseen circumstances. In such cases, a full refund will be issued to registered participants.
