Positioned to Care: Improving Identification of Victims of Labor and Sex Trafficking

Emergency Department and EMS providers have limited knowledge of the best practices to identify and treat victims of human trafficking. This activity provides increased awareness of human trafficking and learners will learn to better recognize victims in an ED/EMS setting and report instances when appropriate.

Target Audience

This education program is oriented towards physicians, physician assistants, EMS providers, registered nurses, respiratory therapists, social workers and other advanced practice providers. 

Learner Outcome

After completing this training, participants will report increase knowledge and confidence related to identifying red flags that may indicate human trafficking and how to appropriately screen patients for human trafficking. Participants will complete a pre/post survey with case studies to demonstrate new knowledge. 

Learning Objectives

  • Identify red flags indicating human trafficking in patients
  • Recognize trauma informed care of victims and apply to patients
  • Determine how to screen and question patients for human trafficking

Criteria for Completion

To obtain credit, learners must attest to module completion and submit pre- and post-surveys.
