LIVE IN-PERSON ACTIVITY

School nurses and Childcare Health Consultants are increasingly caring for students with complex medical conditions and emergency health needs in educational settings. This educational activity provides evidence-based guidance, practical strategies, and hands-on learning experiences to strengthen the assessment, management, and care coordination skills necessary to support students with specialized healthcare needs in the school setting. 

Participants will learn current best practices for caring for students with tracheostomies, ventilators, oxygen support needs, Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), and school-based medical emergencies. Through didactic presentations, hands-on skill stations, and case-based discussions, school nurses will gain knowledge and skills that can be immediately applied in practice to improve student safety, health outcomes, and readiness to learn.

Target Audience

The target audience for this activity are School Nurses and Childcare Health Consultants providing care to students in the school and childcare settings.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this activity, learners will:

  • self-report increased knowledge of evidence-based practices for the management of medically complex students and school health emergencies including tracheostomy management, ventilator support, oxygen therapy, Epidermolysis Bullosa, and advanced emergency preparedness school and childcare settings.
