Yep, It’s Seizures…Now What Do I Do?

This course for the interdisciplinary health care team (RN, MD, EMS, APP) provides a review of the clinical pathways for the evaluation, treatment and management of seizures in pediatric patients. The course also includes case study presentations and considerations for treatment resistance scenarios.

Learner Outcomes

As a result of this activity, learners will be able to report new knowledge related to seizures in order to provide current, evidence-based care to pediatric patients.

Learning Objectives

  • Discuss the principles of epilepsy management with typical anti-seizure medications
  • Describe the next steps when patients become treatment resistant and delineate other treatment options
  • Review both abortive/rescue medications and prophylactic/anticonvulsant medication in appropriate settings
