The Failing Pediatric Heart: Cardiomyopathies and Myocarditis in Children

This course is designed for the interdisciplinary health care team (RN, MD, APP, EMS) and presents a range of cardiomyopathy and myocarditis cases. It also includes discussion of EKG, echocardiographic findings, laboratory evaluation, and genetic testing associated with various diagnoses.

As a result of this activity, learners will be able to report new knowledge related to cardiomyopathies and myocarditis in order to provide current, evidence-based care to pediatric patients.

  • Identify common presentations of cardiomyopathies and myocarditis in children that require urgent evaluation or referral
  • Review principles of myocardial contractile function to guide clinical management
