Ready or Not Here I Come: Stabilization of Newborns Prior to Transport

This course for the interdisciplinary health care team (RN, MD, APP, EMS) will include a review of current literature and clinical pathways followed by Children’s Hospital Colorado for newborn stabilization and resuscitation. The course also includes a case study presentation.  As a result of this activity, learners will be able to report new knowledge related to newborn stabilization in order to provide current, evidence-based care to neonatal patients.

Learning Objectives

  • Review the programs available to teach the initial steps of neonatal resuscitation and stabilization.
  • Identify common conditions associated with newborn infants requiring transfer to a higher level of care.
  • Describe the interventions and supplies to maintain stabilization of the newborn while awaiting transport to a higher level of care.
