29th Annual Abby Stoddard Lectureship
The Abby Stoddard Lectureship and Visiting Professorship at Children's Hospital Colorado provides faculty physicians, residents, fellows, nurses and other healthcare providers from Children's Hospital and throughout the Rocky Mountain Region healthcare community an opportunity to observe and discuss the latest clinical cases in pediatric neurology, neuroradiology, childhood stroke, hematology, pediatric neuro-intensive care, and rehabilitation.
Target Audience
This education program is intended for physicians, fellows, residents, students, advanced practice providers and nurses who have an interest in pediatric neurology.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this conference, participants should be able to
- List common disorders in infants and children who present with abnormal muscle tone and understand specific aspects of a detailed history and physical examination that can indicate the localization in either the peripheral or central nervous system.
- Identify and discuss the different categories of movement and ataxic disorders and list specific disorders that are most likely the source of abnormal patient movements and incoordination.
- Define the spectrum of specific neurological disorders that occur frequently or uniquely in Navajo Native Americans, and define social and cultural issues that are important for communicating with patients and their families.
- List current genetic testing as well as possible therapeutic interventions for Duchenne muscular dystrophy and other neuromuscular disorders.
- Describe specific manifestations of severe emotional distress, sadness and chronic grief in family members of children who suffer from severe neurological disease and disability, and better understand methods to communicate more effectively with patients and families about severe emotionally distressing medical information.
