The purpose of this training is to educate and train caregivers, professionals, and students who work with individuals who use a speech generating device (SGD) to augment their communication.
Professionals will increase their understanding of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) principles, communication partner strategies, the levels of AAC communicators, how to adapt activities for an individual’s communication needs, and other related topics.
Specifically, this section will address:

- Wait time
- Sabotage
- Open Ended Questions
- Offering Choices
- Levels of Support
- Video Modeling/Peer Modeling
- Expansions/recasting/Feedback/Extension
- Chaining
- Contrastive examples
- Supported Navigation
Target Audience
This training is designed for professionals with backgrounds in speech-language pathology, occupational therapy, education, special education, and behavioral therapy, as well as caregivers and community members who are interested in learning more about AAC.
