OUTREACH LIVE COURSE
This symposium is for interdisciplinary healthcare team members caring for pediatric patients in an emergency and pre-hospital setting. Current clinical issues and implications for children's health and clinician care delivery are presented and discussed.
This symposium will be held at Banner Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, WY with an in person only attendance option. No virtual links are provided for this event.
Target Audience
This conference is for interdisciplinary healthcare team members including nursing, providers and pre-hospital providers.
Learner Outcomes
After attending this education, learners will report new knowledge and intent to change practice to provide current, evidence-based care to pediatric patients in an emergent setting.
Learning Objectives
- Discuss assessment tools, initial interventions, and escalation for pediatric patients.
- Review common respiratory issues and treatments for increased work of breathing in pediatrics.
- Review common presentations of abusive injuries that warrant further evaluation.
- Define seizure, status epilepticus and non-convulsive status epilepticus.
- Discuss common errors and mitigation strategies for pediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
- Discuss current guidelines for management of pediatric head trauma.
- Identify the most common neonatal emergencies that present within the first 28 days of life.
- Outline a pediatric case study across the continuum of care through four agencies to highlight pediatric clinical practice.
- Discuss appropriate assessment and treatment options for pain management in the pediatric population.
- List temporary stabilization methods for various pediatric fractures.
- Describe the risks and benefits with CT scan use in the evaluation of injured children.
- Review presentation and treatment of pediatric sepsis. Review indications for massive transfusion protocol activation in pediatric trauma patients through case studies.
- Describe how to evaluate complex pediatric orthopedic trauma and stabilize for the next level of care.
- Illustrate the pathophysiology and management of diabetic ketoacidosis including how the pediatric population is uniquely affected.
- Discuss initial management of patients presenting with emergent complaints in the pediatric emergency setting.
