47th Annual L. Joseph Butterfield Perinatal Conference

Aurora, CO US
September 18, 2026

LIVE HYBRID ACTIVITY

Strengthening Care | Improving Outcomes | Inspiring Practice

The landscape of perinatal and neonatal care continues to evolve rapidly, driven by emerging evidence, updated clinical guidelines, and advances in technology. Nurses and other healthcare professionals caring for pregnant individuals, newborns, and their families must continually adapt their practice to provide safe, high-quality, evidence-based care for these specialized populations. This year’s conference will provide relevant and practical education on key issues impacting maternal and neonatal care. Through expert-led presentations and discussion of current evidence, participants will explore emerging trends, best practices, and innovations across the continuum of perinatal and neonatal care.

A Tribute

L. Joseph Butterfield, MD
October 5, 1926 - June 1, 1999

Dr. Butterfield, a world-renowned neonatology pioneer, visionary and master of networking, created the Newborn Center (Neonatal ICU) at Children’s Hospital Colorado in 1965. He designed a regionalized system of care, “Newborn Country USA”, advocated for newborns and their families in legislative and professional arenas, and endowed the L. Joseph Butterfield Chair in Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital Colorado.

Target Audience and Learner Outcomes

This inter-professional conference is comprised of nurses, advanced practice providers, physicians, respiratory therapists and other perinatal/child health providers practicing in a variety of roles and settings throughout the region.

As a result of this activity, learners will self-report increased knowledge of evidence-based practices in the prevention and management of high-risk maternal and neonatal conditions and identify application of current standards to improve patient outcomes.

Call for Project Abstracts

We invite submissions that showcase impactful projects designed to improve outcomes for patients, families, and healthcare team members. We welcome a variety of project types, including Quality Improvement (QI), Evidence-Based Practice (EBP), Process Improvement (PI), Education, Program Evaluation, Research, and other practice-focused initiatives.

Projects should demonstrate a clearly defined problem or opportunity. We are particularly interested in projects that:

  • Improve patient and/or family outcomes, experience, safety, or quality of care
  • Enhance team member well-being, engagement, competence, or satisfaction
  • Improve the care environment, workflows, efficiency, or operational effectiveness
  • Promote professional development, education, leadership growth, or workforce development
  • Advance evidence-based practice, innovation, or interdisciplinary collaboration

Strong submissions will include specific outcome measures and results demonstrating the impact of the project. Whether your project produced large-scale organizational change or meaningful improvements within a single department or team, we encourage you to share your work and lessons learned with colleagues across the healthcare community.
