Acute Care Education (ACE) Day 2022

During this program, learners will participate in interactive lectures and skill stations focused on patients presenting with common urgent care conditions including neurologic disorders, accidental ingestions, non-accidental trauma and laceration repair. Participants will have opportunities to identify injuries and medical conditions and discuss appropriate evaluation, management and follow-up. 

Target Audience

This education program is primarily oriented towards Children's Hospital Colorado Emergency Department physicians and advanced practice providers. 

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this conference, participants should be able to:

  • Understand the cardiotoxic manifestations of common medications.
  • Recognize EKG irregularities associated with cardiotoxic medication exposure.
  • Improve performance of the pediatric neurologic exam.
  • Improve competence, comfort, and confidence in caring for patients with neurological complaints.
  • Understand SPIKES as a framework to deliver distressing health information for patients and families in a sensitive, informed and culturally appropriate manner.
  • Identify methods to explain to a family, in a sensitive and culturally appropriate manner, why their child is undergoing a maltreatment workup in the Emergency Department.  
  • Utilize background, data, and practice guidelines, to support a maltreatment workup in a child.
  • Improve competence and performance of simple and complex laceration repair through skills practice.
