Acute Care Education (ACE) Day - October 8, 2024
This educational program will enhance provider knowledge and skills in key areas of pediatric emergency and urgent care. It will cover the identification and management of acute non-fracture musculoskeletal injuries, improving communication with subspecialists, patients, and families. Participants will also gain a deeper understanding of Mycoplasma pneumoniae, focusing on its evolving presentation and treatment strategies. Additionally, the course will address optimizing the use of EPIC EHR systems to streamline workflow, recognizing pediatric trauma that requires activation of trauma teams, and honing essential clinical skills through hands-on practice in incision and drainage, suturing, and digital blocks.

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this conference, participants should be able to:
- Identify the normal anatomy of long bones, joints, and their alignment on X-rays and utilize appropriate immobilization/DME use for common musculoskeletal injuries.
- Summarize the epidemiology and spectrum of clinical presentation of mycoplasma pneumoniae and pediatric patients.
- Identify best testing strategies for mycoplasma pneumoniae and implement the most appropriate treatment plan for clinical presentation of mycoplasma pneumoniae.
- Identify 1-2 Epic tools to increase comfort and decrease friction between the end user and the EHR, and determine appropriate resources to empower providers seeking support for user questions or challenges within Epic.
- Implement high risk mechanisms and clinical presentations for trauma patients not presenting to the ED as a known trauma patient and understand the importance of early trauma recognition and escalation to a higher level of care.
- Improve basic procedural skills for incision and drainage, suturing, and digital blocks, and identify contraindications and risks of each procedure.
