Audiology Conference - Beyond the Ear: Factors Influencing Patient Outcomes
This conference will explore factors beyond diagnostic test results that contribute to patient care and outcomes in audiology. Attendees will engage in discussions surrounding the psychological, cultural, and socioeconomic elements that impact patient success. Individual speakers will address how providers can improve hearing healthcare, and the panel discussions will highlight the importance of interprofessional collaboration in providing holistic care for individuals with hearing loss. This conference will serve as a platform to strengthen the collective effort to enhance patient-centered care.

Mike Hoffman, PhD
Dr. Michael Hoffman is a Pediatric Psychologist at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia within the Center for Childhood Communication and an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He provides integrated psychological services with an emphasis patient-centered, collaborative care for deaf and hard of hearing children and their families. Dr. Hoffman serves on the cochlear implant team and provides outpatient consultation for cochlear impact candidates, and those who were recently implanted. He also helped to develop a tiered model of service to screen DHH patients and provide brief interventions for challenges related to deafness (deaf identity, adjustment to hearing loss/limited device usage, family stress related to hearing loss, academic/peer difficulties, and traditional psychiatric diagnoses such as anxiety, depression, and ADHD). Dr. Hoffman is deaf himself and utilizes one cochlear implant and one hearing aid.

Debbie Mood, PhD
Deborah Mood is a Gallaudet-trained licensed psychologist specializing in working with children who are deaf/hard of hearing and children with neurodevelopmental disabilities. Dr. Mood is an associate professor at University of Colorado Anschutz, School of Medicine, Department of Developmental Pediatrics where she serves as lead psychologist on the developmental behavioral pediatrics D/HH team, microtia team and cochlear implant team. Dr. Mood is passionate about supporting children who are D/HH with co-occurring developmental disabilities and is affiliated faculty with the JFK Partners/Developmental Pediatrics Leadership and Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) program.

Emily Nightengale, AuD, PASC
Emily E. Nightengale joined the Bill Daniels Center for Children's Hearing at Children's Hospital Colorado in July 2010 as an audiologist specializing in pediatric diagnostic evaluations and management. Emily participates as an audiology team member on the Vestibular Team and as audiology lead for the Help for Hearing Device Users Clinic. She actively works on quality improvement projects and publishing research. Dr. Nightengale received her Doctor of Audiology degree from Rush University in Chicago, Illinois in June 2008.

Logan Faust, AuD
Logan Faust has been a pediatric audiologist since 2019 and is currently employed at the Children's Hospital Colorado. Logan's personal life and educational pursuits have taught her how to mitigate conversations and incite change regarding aspects of marginalization within her community and work. She provides personal experiences coupled with researched ideologies to help provide perspectives and discussions about race and its explicit/ implicit impact on our interactions as professionals amongst each other and with our patients.

Cheerish Martin, B.A., B.S., C-AA
Cheerish Martin has a rich background in the Audiology field. Her career has spanned roles from hearing aid dispensing, to work in private ENT clinics, audiology care with military service members, and is currently employed at the Children's Hospital Colorado. She was honored to present her research at the Annual Summit on Social Justice and Diversity, and she is currently the PRIDE champion at Children's Hospital Colorado. Cheerish's unique perspective is shaped by her background as a proud military BRAT (child of a service member)! Her experience has instilled a deep appreciation for diversity and desire to serve others. Cheerish has produced and co-produced several community events aimed at fostering healing, diversity, and equity. She has made it her mission to create safe and inclusive spaces for marginalized people.

This program is offered for 0.55 ASHA CEUs (Intermediate level; Professional area) and AAA Tier One credit. A certificate will be provided for AAA verification.
Attendees are expected to be present for the entire program. Individuals who are not present for the full program will not receive ASHA CEUs. No partial credit will be provided.
A general certificate of attendance will be provided to all others, with completion of the evaluation.

The Planning Committee reserves the right to modify the agenda content while keeping consistent the time and content requirements for ASHA CEUs, or cancel this conference, or if minimum acceptable registration is not attained by September 5, 2025, with a full refund to participants.
