Blood Flow Restriction Therapy
SPORTS MEDICINE CENTER CONTINUING EDUCATION SERIES
This educational module provides an evidence-informed overview of Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) Therapy and its application in rehabilitation and athletic performance. Participants will learn the physiological principles, safety considerations, practical implementation techniques, and programming strategies needed to safely incorporate BFR into clinical practice.

Learning Objectives
- Define BFRT including physiological basis to local skeletal muscle adaptations and systemic adaptations.
- Provide information on the relative benefits of BFR in comparison to traditional resistance training.
- Identify appropriate populations and indications versus contraindications for BFR use.
- Recognize risks, safety considerations associated with BFR, and how to mitigate those risks.
- Explain practical application guidelines, including cuff selection, placement, pressure determination, and exercise prescription variables.
- Provide the current research and the future direction of BFRT.

Children’s Hospital Colorado (BOC AP#: P3765) is approved by the Board of Certification, Inc. to provide continuing education to Athletic Trainers. This program is eligible for a maximum of 1 Category A hours/CEUs. ATs should claim only those hours actually spent in the educational program.
