Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this educational series, participants should be able to:
- Summarize basic procedures for common assays used in biochemical genetics laboratories such as amino acid analysis, organic acid analysis, acylcarnitine analysis and enzyme analysis
- Understand the limitations of common biochemical assays and preanalytical variables such as the presence of medications or errors in sample processing that can influence results.
- Evaluate which biochemical assay is appropriate for a particular diagnosis
- Integrate results from various biochemical assays to arrive at a particular diagnosis.
