Colorado Pediatric Trauma Conference 2022

November 16, 2022 to November 17, 2022

The Colorado Pediatric Trauma conference provides education for state-of-the-art care of the pediatric trauma patient. 

This program will be of interest to physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, respiratory therapists, EMS providers and aeromedical personnel.  

 

Learning Objectives

  • Identify prehospital interventions that will have a significant impact on patient outcomes.
  • Discuss Pediatric Readiness, the challenges faced by rural communities, and identify actionable steps hospitals can take to improve their readiness to care for acutely injured children.
  • Identify various sources of radiation injuries and initial management.
  • Apply advanced teaching techniques for information retention on low frequency high impact events.
  • Identify the differences in the management of pediatric and adult facial fractures.
  • Describe the role of APPs in a trauma program, from the trauma bay to discharge.
  • Discuss the use of firearms in deaths by suicide among youth in Colorado and share approaches to reduce risk.
  • Discuss the relationship between illicit drug use, non-accidental trauma, and child neglect.
  • Describe evidence-based management strategies for treatment of concussion on pediatric brains. 
  • Identify important early interventions in skeletal trauma and recognize the role of orthopedics in management of polytrauma patients.
  • Describe the health risk and management of button battery ingestion. 
  • Define artificial intelligence and recognize how it will impact trauma care in the future.
  • Discuss and appreciate the impact of technology on the practice of medicine.

Learner Outcome

Learners will self-report expanded knowledge of care of traumatized patients and identify available resources for pediatric trauma care to be brought back to their areas of practice.
