Community Pediatric Sexual Assault Learning Series: Child Advocacy Center (CAC) Forensic Interviews

This ongoing education combines clinical presentations, as well as reviews of available evidence, for current practice strategies related to pediatric forensic nursing.

Target Audience

The monthly education is intended for forensic nurse examiners and medical providers who see pediatric and adolescent patients. All attendees should have completed FNE/SANE training prior to enrolling. 

Learner Outcome

Upon completion, the FNE/SANE will report increased confidence incorporating new information related to medical evaluation and assessment for children or adolescent with suspected sexual abuse, assault, or physical abuse.

Learning Objectives

  • Define what a Forensic Interview is and its purpose.
  • Explain the Forensic Interviewing process and the stages of an interview.
  • Discuss the various techniques to gather information from a child regarding their sexual abuse experience within Forensic Medical Exams.

Tina Kettles, MA, LPC is a lead forensic interviewer at Ralston House Children's Advocacy Center. Tina has worked at Ralston House for over 10 years and has been forensically interviewing for 6 years. Within those 6 years, she has conducted over 1,000 forensic interviews for law enforcement and social services for children who are alleged victims of abuse.

 

Nursing Continuing Professional Development

Children’s Hospital Colorado is approved with distinction as provider of nursing continuing professional development by Colorado Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. This educational activity for 1.0 nursing contact hour is provided by Children’s Hospital Colorado.

Registration, attendance and completion of the evaluation within 14-days are required to obtain NCPD contact hours.
