OUTREACH LIVE COURSE
This symposium is for interdisciplinary healthcare team members caring for pediatric patients in an emergency and pre-hospital setting. Current clinical issues and implications for children's health and clinician care delivery are presented and discussed.
In-person event only in Rapid City, SD.
Target Audience
This conference is for interdisciplinary healthcare team members including nursing, providers and pre-hospital providers.
Learner Outcomes
As a result of this session, learners will be able to report new knowledge and intent to change practice in order to provide current, evidence-based care to pediatric patients.
Objectives
- Discuss process to assess level of illness in pediatric patients.
- Discuss pediatric-specific patient assessment and various pediatric responses to illness and trauma.
- Review common physical abuse injuries and explain the relationship between clinical history and physical abuse diagnosis
- Describe initial management of a pediatric burns.
- Review common respiratory issues and treatments for increased work of breathing in pediatrics.
- Discuss a plan to develop a safe and rational approach to acute provision of pediatric sedation and pain control.
- Identify the possible causes of sudden cardiac death in young people as well as what warning signs to look for and when to refer for cardiology evaluation.
- Describe the initial stabilization and emergency management of common environmental emergencies.
