OUTREACH LIVE COURSE
This symposium is for interdisciplinary healthcare team members caring for pediatric patients in an emergency and pre-hospital setting. Current clinical issues and implications for children's health and clinician care delivery are presented and discussed.
Target Audience
This conference is for interdisciplinary healthcare team members including nursing, providers and pre-hospital providers.
Learner Outcomes
As a result of this session, learners will be able to report new knowledge and intent to change practice in order to provide current, evidence-based care to pediatric patients.
Learning Objectives
- Identify a deteriorating pediatric patient.
- Identify predictors of a difficult pediatric airway and understand the common pitfalls made in management.
- Review presentation and treatment of pediatric sepsis.
- Describe initial management of a pediatric hand burn.
- Discuss the most common emergencies seen in the first 28 days of life.
- Outline a pediatric case study across the across continuum of care through three agencies to highlight communication and pediatric clinical practice.
- Discuss options for pain control and sedation in pediatric patients.
- Discuss pediatric-specific patient assessment and various pediatric responses to illness and trauma.
- Review of emergency blood administration and massive transfusion protocol, focusing on the management of hemorrhage in pediatric patients.
- Discuss acute management of seizures in pediatric patients.
- Discuss trauma case studies including pre-hospital, transport, and in hospital clinical care for pediatric patient with TBI.
- Explain the pathophysiology and resultant initial management of DKA in the pediatric patient.
- Review presentation and treatment of a variety of pediatric emergency medicine cases.
