Learning Objectives
- Review basic amniotic fluid principles including function and physiology, normal values, fetal impact of low fluid volumes and ultrasound acquisition of volumes.
- Discuss the management options of early and prolonged fetal anhydramnios, including the option of serial amnioinfusions through the ongoing RAFT trial.
- Discuss primary, non-renal issues of initial newborn resuscitation and care following early and prolonged fetal anhydramnios.
- Review renal replacement therapy, newborn dialysis eligibility and options and basic steps towards dialysis.
