Because the Emergency Department (ED) is the front door to the community, ED staff are first to receive patients requiring immediate care during a natural or manmade disaster involving mass casualties or a biohazard threat. The ED team must be efficient in the recognition and activation of the Emergency Operations Plan, mobilizing and allocating resources to initiate life-saving interventions and stabilization.

The focus of this course is to apply emergency preparedness knowledge, provide current evidence and offer practical experiences, in a non-threatening, no-harm environment. At the conclusion of this event, learners will report increased knowledge related to the roles and actions to be executed in the event of disaster as well as report increased confidence in providing high quality, coordinated care during a disaster event.
