No Sweat, Just Sweet: Acute Management of the DKA Patient
Overview
This course for the interdisciplinary health care team (RN, MD, APP, EMS) provides a review of the clinical pathways for assessment and treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis in the acute setting. The course also includes discussion on the definitions, epidemiology, pathophysiology and current treatment recommendations.

Learner Outcomes
As a result of this activity, learners will be able to report new knowledge related to diabetic ketoacidosis in order to provide current, evidence-based care to pediatric patients.
Learning Objectives
- Review basic pathophysiology of DKA (including some epidemiology and complications)
- Describe the use of DKA pathways at Children's Colorado and other tertiary/quaternary pediatric centers
- Discuss why a simpler approach to initial DKA management may be preferable for many sites of care
