Pediatric Emergency and Trauma Outreach Symposium | Bozeman, MT
Overview
LIVE OUTREACH IN-PERSON ACTIVITY
This symposium is for interdisciplinary healthcare team members caring for pediatric patients in an emergency and pre-hospital setting. Current clinical issues and implications for children's health and clinician care delivery are presented and discussed.
This symposium will be held at Montana State University in Bozeman, MT with an in person only attendance option. No virtual links are provided for this event.
Target Audience
This symposium is for interdisciplinary healthcare team members including nursing, providers and pre-hospital providers.
Learner Outcomes
After attending this education, learners will report new knowledge and intent to change practice to provide current, evidence-based care to pediatric patients in an emergent setting.
Learning Objectives
- Discuss initial management of pediatric patients presenting with respiratory distress and failure.
- Plan for common pitfalls encountered during pediatric airway management.
- Recognize the unique pathophysiology, acute management, and surgical considerations of crush injuries in pediatric patients.
- Identify "normal" vs. concerning injuries in infants and young children.
- Identify the most common neonatal emergencies and treatment that present within the first 28 days of life
- Discuss management and evaluation for common environmental emergencies.
- Outline steps in medical evaluation, documentation and management plan.
- Outline steps to prepare for pediatric transfer.
- Describe how to evaluate complex pediatric orthopedic trauma and stabilize for the next level of care.
- Discuss presentation, evaluation, and management of pediatric sepsis.
- Outline comfort holds and communication with patients and families during care.
- Discuss common errors and mitigation strategies for pediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
- Apply pediatric emergency and trauma knowledge in a game.
- Review pediatric trauma cases evaluation and management.
- Discuss current trends in pediatric prehospital care and answer questions regarding EMS topics.
- Discuss management and treatment for toxicological emergencies.
- Review approaches and techniques to limit pain/trauma for your pediatric patients during procedures.
- Describe management interventions in caring for pediatric trauma patients after the initial assessment and resuscitation phase.
- Review the initial stabilization, medical, and surgical management of pediatric brain injury.
- Discuss care and management of pediatric patient presenting with neurologic changes.
- Discuss approach, workup, treatment of interesting pediatric emergency medicine cases.
- Discuss current trends in pediatric emergency care and answer questions regarding ED topics.
- Describe initial evaluation and management for pediatric burn patients of varying severities and locations.
- Review the initial stabilization, medical, and surgical management of pediatric spine injury.
