Pediatric Emergency and Trauma Outreach Symposium | Cheyenne, WY
LIVE OUTREACH IN-PERSON ACTIVITY

This symposium is for interdisciplinary healthcare team members caring for pediatric patients in an emergency and pre-hospital setting. Current clinical issues and implications for children's health and clinician care delivery are presented and discussed.
This symposium will be held at the Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, WY, with an in person only attendance option. No virtual links are provided for this event.
Learner Outcome
After attending this education, learners will report new knowledge and intent to change practice to provide current, evidence-based care to pediatric patients in an emergent setting.
Objectives
- Discuss assessment tools, initial interventions, and escalation for pediatric patients.
- Identify predictors of a difficult pediatric airway and develop a plan to address management.
- Describe management options for pediatric patients in respiratory distress.
- Review diagnostic processes and common presentations for physical abuse.
- Identify the most common neonatal emergencies that present within the first 28 days of life.
- Discuss the importance of rapid identification and intervention in pediatric sepsis regardless of clinical setting.
- Identify how the management of DKA in children varies from adult care, especially considering fluid and insulin administration.
- Discuss common errors made in pediatric CPR performance and introduce strategies to mitigate them.
- Outline steps to prepare for pediatric transfer.
- Discuss current trends in pediatric prehospital care and answer questions regarding EMS topics.
- Describe how children are more vulnerable to disasters or mass casualty events than adults.
- Outline steps in medical evaluation, documentation and management plan.
- Apply pediatric emergency and trauma knowledge in a game.
- Discuss first line management for active seizure activity.
- Identify potential complications of procedural sedation and pain management.
- Describe the management of pediatric trauma patients after the initial assessment and resuscitation.
- Review pediatric head trauma principles including indications for non-surgical versus surgical management.
- Discuss the pathophysiology, evaluation and treatment of common toxicological emergencies.
- Outline effective methods for suicide screening and triage.
- Discuss the pathophysiology, management of environmental injuries including snake bites.
- Review strategies and best practices for reducing radiation exposure in pediatric imaging while maintaining diagnostic image quality and safety.

- Discuss acute management of patients presenting with concerns for foreign body.
- Describe strategies for de-escalating youth who are behaviorally and/or emotionally dysregulated.

Cancellation and Refund Policy
A registration refund, minus a $10.00 cancellation fee, will be issued if the cancellation request is received at least 14 calendar days prior to the activity date. No refunds will be granted after this deadline or for non-attendance. However, a substitute may attend in your place if you notify the conference coordinator at least three days before the activity.
Children’s Hospital Colorado reserves the right to modify the agenda or cancel the activity due to unforeseen circumstances or if minimum registration is not met by September 17, 2025. In such cases, a full refund will be issued to registered participants.
