Pediatric Pearls: Partnering with Surgeons
Pediatric Surgical Specialists and Pediatricians work in concert to provide timely, safe and effective care to children in need of surgical intervention. As a result, a common understanding and acceptance of standards of practice for surgical intervention are fundamental for all pediatric clinicians. Thus, pediatric clinicians need an increased understanding of the guidelines for referral for surgical management, improved clinical performance in the medical management of conditions prior to consideration of surgical intervention, and a deeper understanding of co-management of medical and surgical conditions with their surgical colleagues.
By improving these facets of education, pediatricians can reduce waste in our health care system with unnecessary referrals, improve efficiency by referring at the optimal time for surgical intervention, and avoiding delays in necessary care.
Target Audience
