Learning Objectives
- Evaluate the surgical and non-surgical treatment modalities for pectus carinatum and pectus excavatum — including bracing, Nuss, and Ravitch techniques — and apply appropriate patient selection criteria based on anatomy, severity, and prior surgical history.
- Incorporate recent advances in perioperative pain control protocols, including cryoablation and multimodal analgesia, into surgical planning to optimize postoperative recovery and reduce length of stay.
- Determine the clinical criteria and optimal timing for referring pediatric patients with chest wall abnormalities to a specialist for surgical evaluation.
- Identify the clinical indications and optimal timing for referring pediatric patients with inguinal, umbilical, or epigastric hernias for surgical evaluation, including features that warrant urgent versus elective referral.
