SPORTS MEDICINE CENTER
Children's Hospital Colorado is obligated to create and rehearse yearly emergency action plans for contracted event coverage. Yearly field training on emergency response, communication, team roles, and emergency skills is essential for department preparedness.

8:05am-8:10am: Explanation of our role at outreach events
8:10am-8:15am: Review of Sports Medicine Center Cold Weather Policy and Cold Weather Injury Management (Hypothermia, Chilblains, Frostbite)
8:15am-8:20am: Review of Anaphylaxis Management (Recognition and Epi-Pen Usage)
8:20am-8:25am: Review of Asthma vs Exercise Induced Broncospasm
8:25am-8:30am: Review of Diabetic Athlete Management (Hyper- vs Hypoglycemia, Glucometer usage)
8:30am-8:40am: Review Cervical Spine Injury and Spinal Cord Injury in Sport
8:40am-8:50am: Review Hockey Equipment and Hockey Equipment Removal in the Event of Cervical Spine Injury
8:50am-9:30am: Cervical Spine Injury Scenarios and Spine-boarding and Equipment Removal Practice
9:30am-9:40am: Review of Immediate Concussion Management
9:40am-9:45am: Convulsive Seizure Management
9:45am-10:00am: Internal Organ Injury Management
10:00am-10:25am: Joint Dislocation and Relocation Emergency Management (Glenohumeral joint, Interphalangeal joint and 1st Metacarpal-phalangeal joint, Patellofemoral joint, Elbow joint, Talocrural joint)
10:25am-10:30am: General Fracture Principles
10:30am-11:00am: Fracture Splinting Demonstration and Practice (Orthoglass Demonstration, then SAM Splint/ACE Wrap Practice with Scenarios)
11:00am-11:30: Conclusion and Any Review of Prophylactic Taping Desired by the Staff.
Athletic Trainers
Children’s Hospital Colorado (BOC AP#: P3765) is approved by the Board of Certification, Inc. to provide continuing education to Athletic Trainers. This program is eligible for a maximum of 3 Category A hours/CEUs. ATs should claim only those hours actually spent in the educational program.
A general certificate of attendance will be given to all other care providers.
