Youth Concussion in the Primary Care Setting: Best Practice Recommendations for Athletics & the Classroom

This conference on youth concussion will cover topics of interest to pediatricians, family physicians, and other pediatric healthcare providers. Several leading experts will present on the most up-to-date research and best practices regarding youth concussion from diagnosis to management.

Learning Objectives
- Identify signs and symptoms of concussion to improve diagnostic accuracy and also recognize when a head injury is an emergency.
- Recognize the expected natural clinical course of concussion and what factors can complicate recovery.
- Understand referral indications for children and adolescents with persisting symptoms
- Identify the various reasons why complete rest or prolonged rest could be detrimental to patient outcomes following concussion.
- Define the most updated protocol for a safe return to sports and return to school.
- Recognize the numerous non-concussion factors that can complicate concussion recovery.
- Evaluate their own concussion knowledge and practices and how they align with current research and evidence-based practices.
