OUTREACH LIVE COURSE
This symposium is for interdisciplinary healthcare team members caring for pediatric patients in an emergency and pre-hospital setting. Current clinical issues and implications for children's health and clinician care delivery are presented and discussed.
This education day will be held at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colorado with an in person only attendance option. No virtual links are provided for this education event.
Target Audience
This conference is for interdisciplinary healthcare team members including nursing, providers and pre-hospital providers.
Learner Outcomes
As a result of this session, learners will be able to report new knowledge and intent to change practice in order to provide current, evidence-based care to pediatric patients.
Learning Objectives
- Discuss assessment tools, initial interventions, and escalation for pediatric patients.
- Describe basic prehospital and hospital assessment of the patient with a seizure.
- Describe the indications and limitations of different non-invasive respiratory support modalities for pediatric acute respiratory failure.
- Outline recognition and stabilization strategies for pediatric diabetic ketoacidosis
- Discuss common toxicological emergencies and their management.
- Review presentation and treatment of pediatric sepsis.
- Describe how to incorporate considerations for pediatric patients as part of routine mass casualty incident preparedness and planning.
- Outline a pediatric case study across the continuum of care through four agencies to highlight pediatric clinical practice.
- Identify anatomic and physiologic factors specific to the pediatric airway and the challenges they present.
- Describe the risks associated with ionizing radiation in children.
- Identify the possible causes of sudden cardiac death in young people and the importance of emergency action planning for good outcomes.
- Discuss the appropriate initial care and disposition of pediatric burn patients from minor to severe burn injuries.
- Review the pathophysiology, management, and treatment of rattlesnake envenomation.
- List three signs concerning for possible non accidental trauma that warrant further evaluation.
- Discuss current guidelines for management of pediatric head trauma.
- Review presentation and treatment of a variety of pediatric emergency medicine cases.
