Target Audience
This cutting-edge information will enhance knowledge, skills and performance of providers involved in physical, social and behavioral health aspects of care in adolescents and young adults.
The increased knowledge and skills will help attendees better advocate for youth in all domains of health and well-being.
Learning Objectives
- Practice the inner work of anti-racism through self-reflection, explore how inequities impact key developmental milestones of adolescence, and apply a racial equity lens to more effectively engage and support the needs of young people.
- Review creative ways to remove barriers and expand telemedicine support to meet adolescent sexual health needs.
- Identify the requirements set forth by the 21st Century Cures Act pertaining to medical record release, and review strategies to protect adolescent privacy within these regulations.
- Apply an equity lens to healthcare communication strategies that involve parents/guardians, recognizing structural vulnerabilities (e.g. minoritized identities or lived experiences of racism or migration) that influence parent-teen-clinician dynamics
- Gain practical skills in the clinical setting to educate parents/caregivers on teen health issues while maintaining rapport with teen patients and confidentiality when indicated
- Review common validated mental health screening tools for mental illness in adolescents, interventions for positive screens, and resources for partnering with community resources.
