Overview, Target Audience and Learner Outcome

Interdisciplinary healthcare team members will discuss respiratory assessment and vital sign trending in pediatric patients that would prompt early recognition of worsening clinical status and initiation of interventions. This session will use three separate respiratory case studies to discuss escalation of care and methods for initiating and engaging in multidisciplinary communication when a patient is showing clinical signs of worsening respiratory status. As a result of this activity, learners will be able to report increased knowledge and intent to change practice related to providing current, evidence-based care to pediatric patients.

Objectives:

  • Analyze the trend feature in Epic to identify early signs of clinical changes in patients with respiratory distress.
  • Detect clinical signs of respiratory distress.
  • Formulate methods for engaging in multidisciplinary communication when a patient is showing signs of respiratory distress.
