Certified Academic Language Practitioner Class - Seminar 1
This two-part seminar is limited to Children's Hospital Colorado Team Only. Registration and payment required for each seminar.
Seminar 1 - Jan. 12 - May 8
Seminar 2 - May 11 - Nov. 26
ALTA Requirements:
- Without IMSLEC accreditation, trainees will have to submit all calendars/paperwork to ALTA directly: Applicant Training Verification Form
- Certified Academic Language Practitioner (CALP)
- Completion of comprehensive teacher level training (by CALT-QI) in a Multisensory Structured Language Education (MSLE) program that must include:
- Minimum of 45 instructional hours
- Minimum of 60 clinical/teaching hours
- Minimum of 5 demonstrations
- Clinical/teaching documentation must be signed by the supervising instructor with the instructor’s proof of credentials
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- Acceptable performance on a teaching level comprehensive examination administered by ALTA. The Academic Language Therapy Association Competency Exam for Multisensory Structured Language Education is available to applicants, at the CALP level, with a minimum of nine months from the beginning of training, and a maximum of two years from the completion of CALP training.

Knowledge Base & Structured Literacy Competency
Demonstrate mastery of the linguistic foundations of Structured Literacy, including phonology, orthography, morphology, syntax, and semantics, and apply this knowledge to design and deliver explicit, systematic, cumulative instruction.
Assessment & Data-Based Decision Making Competency
Competently administer, analyze, and interpret diagnostic and progress-monitoring assessments to identify language-based learning needs and to plan, adjust, and document instruction accordingly.
Instructional Practices & Intervention Competency
Implement evidence-based, multisensory instructional strategies for reading, spelling, and written language that are responsive to individual learner profiles, particularly students with dyslexia and related language-based learning differences.
Professionalism, Ethics & Collaboration Competency
Demonstrate professional and ethical practice by effectively communicating assessment results and instructional progress, collaborating with families and interdisciplinary teams, maintaining accurate documentation, and adhering to CALP standards of practice.

in order to receive the certification the candidate will have to meet a certain number of hours. incomplete learners will have to make up the time or they will forfeit the certification.
Children’s Hospital Colorado reserves the right to modify the agenda or cancel the activity due to unforeseen circumstances or if minimum registration is not met.
