Data-driven Engagement of Families to Improve the NICU Experience (DEFINE)
Jointly provided by Children's Hospital Colorado Section of Neonatology and the Colorado Perinatal Care Quality Collaborative (CPCQC).
Target Audience
Through specific lectures and discussions led by experts in the field of Neonatology the goal of the conference is for participants to enhance their fund of knowledge and practical management strategies to better care for their patients. This program will be of interest to physicians, registered nurses, advanced practice nurses, and healthcare teams caring for these newborns in the NICU.
Needs Statement
Our goal is to ensure that mothers, birthing individuals, and their families in Colorado receive culturally relevant, safe, equitable, high-quality care no matter who they are or where they live.
CPCQC is leading change in the clinical setting, within our community, and through policy and advocacy efforts. We are working toward a future where all of Colorado’s pregnant and postpartum people have equitable access to care, safer birth experiences, and the support of their community and peers.
Learner Outcome
Participants will report increased knowledge of disparities indegree of family engagement during prolonged NICU hospitalization, strategies to improve safe infant sleep practice and approached to screening determinants of health during NICU hospitalization. Participants will report at least one practice change they plan to make as a result of this education.
Learning Objectives
Describe disparities in race/ethnicity, primary language, and rural/urban residence indegree of family engagement during prolonged NICU hospitalization.
Identify strategies to improving safe infant sleep practices in the NICU so that the risk for SUID can be reduced in the home setting.
Discuss the rationale and approaches to screening for social determinants of health during NICU hospitalization.
