Colorado Pediatric Emergency and Trauma Conference 2025
Overview
The Colorado Pediatric Emergency and Trauma conference provides education for state-of-the-art care of the pediatric trauma patient in both the pre-hospital setting and through the continuum of inpatient care.
Target Audience
This program will be of interest to physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, respiratory therapists, EMS providers, aeromedical personnel and ancillary staff.
Learning Objectives
- Describe and evaluate emerging technologies and field medicine practices in the prehospital/EMS setting, and translate advancements into improvements for civilian emergency care.
- Apply evidence-based strategies for pediatric airway management, including video laryngoscopy optimization, post-intubation complication prevention, and algorithmic approaches to difficult or failed airways.
- Discuss and implement current best practices in pediatric trauma care, including penetrating trauma evaluation, solid organ injury management, and nonaccidental trauma recognition.
- Assess and manage critical airway and respiratory scenarios, including the use of ECMO in traumatic cardiac arrest, difficult airway management, and procedural sedation safety in emergency settings.
- Implement team-based strategies to improve safety, communication, and situational awareness during high-stress trauma care and emergency scenarios.
- Apply updated protocols for managing complex trauma presentations such as unstable pelvic fractures, spinal cord injuries, vascular compromise, and polytrauma in both adult and pediatric populations.
- Summarize best practices across the continuum of burn care, from initial stabilization to long-term rehabilitation.
- Evaluate and apply interventions for neonate stabilization, pediatric trauma response during disasters, and early mobilization strategies for recovery.
- Demonstrate advanced skills in managing cardiac emergencies during critical care transport and in applying massive transfusion protocols, including whole blood use.
- Integrate recent research and emerging infection control strategies into clinical decision-making for trauma and emergency care, including recognition and treatment of sports-related head trauma.
Learner Outcome
Learners will self-report expanded knowledge of care of traumatized patients and identify available resources for pediatric trauma care to be brought back to their areas of practice.
